Richard’s career has been diverse and impactful, helping shape his expertise and leadership in accounting. Richard began his career training as an accountant at Sotheby’s Auctioneers. His journey took a significant turn when he moved to Bahrain, where he worked for the government, helping construction companies establish accounting systems. Richard was instrumental in migrating a range of administrative systems to a new platform, marking a major achievement.
Upon his return to the UK in the late 1980s, Richard started his own business. During this period, he also collaborated with Barclays and Price Waterhouse to develop advanced accounting software. His expertise extended into IT, co-founding a business supplying technology to schools, including Eton College. With the rapid advancement of technology, Richard pivoted once again, expanding his skills to qualify as a Financial Adviser at St. James’ Place in 2007.

By 2009, Richard Riley was ready to expand his business. Richard Riley and Associates was established, offering a unique blend of accounting expertise with an emphasis on flexibility and work-life balance. His first recruit, Sue Hitchcox, joined the team part-time while juggling a young family, benefitting from the firm’s flexible working opportunities. Sue has worked with Richard ever since and is now his Practice Manager.
