Everything You Need to Know About Companies House Identity Verification

From 18 November 2025, anyone running or controlling a UK company must verify their identity with Companies House as part of the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023. This change helps reduce fraud, improve the accuracy of the companies register, and make the UK a safer place to do business.

Directors, PSCs, company secretaries, LLP members, and ACSPs will all need to complete verification. Non-compliance could lead to penalties, filing restrictions, or even director disqualification. Once verified, you’ll receive a personal code required for future filings and appointments.

At Richard Riley and Associates, we’re a registered Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP), so we can manage the verification process for you, ensure filings are accepted, and help you avoid compliance headaches.

Don’t leave it to the last minute, companies are encouraged to verify early.

Don’t Let Your Side Hustle Catch You Out on Tax

Got a side hustle? Whether you’re selling online, tutoring, or creating digital content, if you’ve earned more than £1,000 between April 2024 and April 2025, HMRC says you need to register and get your tax right. Many people aren’t aware of their responsibilities, so this campaign aims to help reduce the “hidden economy” tax gap. Check HMRC’s guidance here, and remember, if you’d like support, we’re here to guide you every step of the way.

Stay Ahead of the Curve: Making Tax Digital Starts 2026

Making Tax Digital (MTD) is coming for the self-employed and those with property income, with a phased rollout starting in April 2026. If your qualifying income is over £50k (from 2026), £30k (from 2027), or £20k (from 2028), you’ll need to comply with the new rules. This will mean changes to how you keep records and the software you use – so it’s important to get prepared early. At Richard Riley and Associates, we’re here to guide you through every step, from understanding the requirements to choosing the right tools, making sure you’re fully ready when MTD arrives.
